Over Seeding
The best method we have found to overseed is with a mechanical disk slit seeder. We use vertical cut blades that cut through the thatch layer and open up a slit in the soil. The seed is then able to fall between the blades in the slit. Then we follow it a roller to seal in the seed. This allows for maximum germination. Using this Slit seeding method we are able to save money on seed over broadcast type seeding. This is acheived by putting the seed directly into the turf. Birds are not ale to get to the seed as its in the ground. Also, there is a much higher germination rate as the seed makes direct contact with the soil. We recommend making multiple passes. 4 passes will give you the best results. We do each pass in a different direction, allowing for maximum coverage.
